Westpoint has recently announced a range of Tape and Optical Storage products for direct connection to IBM S/390 and compatible mainframe systems. The connection is available via fibre-optic ESCON or Block Multiplex Channel.

These systems solve the problems facing the users of mainframe systems. The replacement of bulky and costly 9 track and 18/36track systems with low cost, modern, compact units. They also provide a gateway for Optical Storage Systems, (CD/DVD and MO), at a lower cost or if they are not an available option from a mainframe supplier. Further options include a High Speed Data Mover for communication to other platforms and for www access.
