SmartStor Jukeman
/ iXOS Jukeman a complete read/write archival storage
solution for multiple UNIX platforms, including Solaris,
HP-UX, IBM-AIX, and Linux. SmartStor Jukeman is completely
media independent, which means that users are free to
configure any combination of MO, WORM, CD, or DVD libraries
on a single server and view the entire configuration as one
large network storage repository. SmartStor Jukeman is easy
to install and use, providing a common interface to document
imaging; COLD; prepress; legal; e-mail archive; audio;
video-on-demand; banking; health care; web-based storage;
and other data-intensive, e-business, and Internet
Applications.
SmartStor Jukeman Delivers the following:
Multi-threaded Architecture - To ensure high
performance at all times SmartStor Jukeman provides
unparalleled speed and throughput even under high-volume
usage.
Complete Media Independence - Increasingly,
applications and network environments are faced with greater
data volume and higher availability storage needs. SmartStor
Jukeman’s media independence means that users are free to
configure any combination of MO, WORM, CD, or DVD devices on
a single server and view the entire configuration as one
large network storage repository. Users need not be
concerned with the technology differences of each of the
devices. Jukeman manages the entire storage subsystem and
provides transparent access to terabytes of on-line data.
Comprehensive Standards Support - SmartStor Archive can
read the many various types of standards found on both
commercial and in-house-produced CD/DVD-ROMs.
“Triple Check” Data Verification - SmartStor
Jukeman’s “Triple Check” feature ensures that data is
written to the media, byte for byte. This automated
comparison capability is activated to verify that the data
written to the media is identical to the source. The first
verification is performed at the drive level, the second by
the file system during the write process, then “Triple
Check” verifies that the data has been successfully written.
Jukeman considers data to have been successfully written
after this careful verification and only then proceeds to
synchronize the file system views and system cache.
On-Line Management - Administrators using SmartStor
Jukeman can perform all system management functions and
retrieve on-line management statistics while the system
remains on-line for users. Network clients accessing data
will not be interrupted while media is being added or
removed from the system. Mission-critical applications
experience no downtime.
Fault Tolerance - SmartStor Jukeman provides
customers with Fault Tolerant data storage solutions.
Jukeman’s journaled file system tracks the status of all
system functions and transactions and automatically updates
as data is written or retrieved by network users. In the
event of a system failure, Jukeman is able to restart and
recover the directory structure, cache content, and status
of the library and drives, and return the system to its
proper state prior to the failure.
Data Replicator - Organizations often have the need
to clone data stored inside a library for distribution and
disaster recovery. Jukeman’s “Data Replicator” feature
automates the process of duplicating MO, WORM, DVD and CD
media for distribution. Users can simply select the data
source to clone parts of the data stored in the library.
Simple to use API Toolkits - The SmartStor Jukeman
toolkits are highly functional, easy to use, well
documented, and fully supported by the Smart Storage ISV
Partner Program.
With SmartStor Jukeman there is no requirement for 3rd party
SQL database, client, or special networking software.

SmartStor Archive
is a complete read/write archival storage solution for
Windows NT. The entire configuration can be viewed as a
single drive letter, allowing Windows, UNIX, and Macintosh
clients to archive and retrieve data from the same network
location. SmartStor Archive also supports multiple industry
standard file formats (ISO9660, Rockridge, Apple HFS, and
UDF) for universal accessibility. In addition to flexible
file system options, mixed media support (CD-R, CD-ROM,
DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM), sophisticated caching schemes, and
an easy-to-use GUI (Graphical User Interface), SmartStor
Archive offers complete UDF support for v. 1.02, 1.5, and
2.0, providing complete read/write support and portability.
SmartStor Archive is an ideal solution for document imaging,
medical imaging, broadcast archiving, digital asset
management, and other data-intensive applications. Smart
Storage also offers the SmartStor Archive API toolkit for
integration with parent applications.
The following features make SmartStor Archive the industry
leader:
Flexible Volume Management - SmartStor’s
sophisticated file system presents a collection of ROMs on a
volume-by-volume basis, with each CD/DVD appearing as a
subdirectory off the SmartStor drive letter. For example, a
100-slot CD/DVD jukebox is viewed as 100 separate
subdirectories. Each subdirectory reflects the CD/DVD volume
title or an alias. In addition, administrators can organize
titles into groups for easy management.
Capacity Management - In addition to Volume
Management functionality, SmartStor Archive allows the file
system to be aggregated and presented in our patented
Capacity Management mode. Using Capacity Management,
directories can logically span physical media. Instead of
viewing a 100-slot DVD-ROM library as 100 subdirectories,
the system appears as a single volume. Files in a particular
directory may actually reside on more than one disc, while
the SmartStor file system aggregates the structure and
presents them in a single location.
Cross Platform Support - SmartStor Archive ’s ability
to read both Apple HFS and Rockridge ROMs allows the
solution to be shared in heterogeneous operating
environments. For example, SmartStor can be used in
conjunction with a digital asset management application in a
prepress environment that typically has Macintosh clients
and UNIX or Windows NT servers.
Scalability - SmartStor Archive supports a wide range
of drive towers and jukeboxes. Additional hardware can be
easily added to an existing system as storage needs grow
over time.
On-Line Management - Administrators using SmartStor
Archive can perform all system management functions while
the system remains on-line for users. Network clients
accessing data will not be interrupted while media is being
added or removed from the system. Mission-critical
applications experience no downtime.
Express Cache - When rapid retrieval of data is
critical to network clients, an administrator can utilize
our award-winning Express Cache. Express Cache copies the
contents of frequently used CD/DVD’s to a hard disk while
still presenting the data in the SmartStor file system.
Client access time is comparable to hard disk speed. In
addition, SmartStor Archive provides usage statistics so an
administrator can determine which CD/DVD titles to express
cache.
Flexible Data Recording Options - SmartStor Archive
offers unparalleled flexibility in how and when data is
archived. The Job Scheduler can be used to schedule data
archiving to off-peak hours, thereby spreading the system
load. The methods of data archiving are:
Direct Write allows the user to write to a single SmartStor
drive letter. Clients and applications treat the SmartStor
Archive drive letter like a large writable hard disk. Data
can be written to the system using simple system commands
like COPY, MOVE, and SAVE AS, or be dragged from its source
through Explorer. Retrieval of data is just as easy - the
client or application simply locates the data file from the
same SmartStor drive letter and opens it.
Polling provides an efficient way to record premastered
images to CD/DVD. The Poller continuously scans predefined
“queue” directories on the server. When a premastered image
is placed into this directory, SmartStor Archive
automatically writes it to a disc and incorporates it into
the SmartStor file system. This method of data archiving is
particularly valuable in situations where data must be
manipulated at network stations before being submitted to a
central server for recording.
Watermarking allows an administrator to define a network
directory where clients save data. When the directory fills
to a predefined watermark, SmartStor Archive automatically
premasters an image and writes it to disc.
Label Printer Support - With SmartStor Archive, users can
customize, serialize, and print labels on discs inside a
jukebox with a printer.
Application Programming Toolkits (APls) - Smart
Storage offers a full family of API toolkits with all the
“tools” an integrator needs to embed storage technology -
control of data creation, replication, and/or device
management - into a parent application. The toolkits are
highly functional, easy to use, well documented, and fully
supported by the Smart Storage ISV Partner Program
