Westpoint make the CopyStation for Crime Scene Investigators who are gathering Digital Camera or Video evidence to create secure copies of Memory Cards to Write Once CD or DVD Media that cannot be overwritten or modified.

The procedure is considered 'best practice', to safely maintain the integrity of evidence before presentation in court and to counter claims sometimes made by defence lawyers that digital evidence may have been tampered with.

A mobile unit, as shown at the top of the page, is available to be taken to the investigation scene and can be powered from a vehicle battery or from mains power. It is robust and has a clip-on cover to protect the unit from damage and the weather.

An office based CopyStation as shown left, is available where the memory cards are copied back at the office. It is a stand alone unit and does not require additional keyboard and screen connections.

In addition to the good practice procedures that the CopyStation encourages, other important benefits are the simplicity and ease of use of the unit. The photographer merely inserts the memory card into the unit and presses one button to initiate the process. Whilst the copies are being made the operator is free to handle other tasks, to study the crime scene or to take a break. 

Further modules to the basic functions of the CopyStation already described are:

Create VIEWER CD/DVD's with stand alone viewer software utility included.

Scan Memory Cards looking for lost or hidden data following formatting or deletion.

Duplicate Media to make urgent extra copies of the WORKING or VIEWER disks. 

An alternative solution would be to use a laptop computer to make the copies, but this is more fragile and has to be set up with many buttons and mouse clicks using several software programs. This takes considerably longer and can lead to errors. The data on the memory card can be inadvertently corrupted due to the Windows Operating System Date being written to the card, or data can be corrupted due to many other reasons which include virus infection or operator modifications being carried out. 

The CopyStation software has been produced to monitor and check accuracy at each stage during the process. Additional features or customisation can be added by request.
